After a long departure, I'm back to the KZ community. I started out with a 1984 KZ440 over 10 years ago and after several toys/bikes, have returned.

I recently picked up a 1977 KZ1000 and I'm once again looking forward to working on and riding it.

It has been well cared for, has a V&H exhaust, Dyna ignition, braided brakes lines, good paint and runs very strong.

Some of small things I'd like to do are change the seat to a Z1 style, fender eliminator, and maybe change the turn signals. So far, I've only removed the mirrors and rear grab bar.

Let me know what you think.

Beautiful bike!!

As perhaps already known, seems some LTD components have been grafted onto the street model, such as front fender, dual front discs (with added after-market line), mag wheels (probably a 16" rear), and stepped seat. The LTD also had a slightly taller seat grab rail. The chain guard isn't shown, but some folks replace the large plastic guard with a smaller LTD chrome metal guard. Looks like an after-market handlebar.

Good Fortune! :)

Here's a photo-chop rendition with rear fender eliminated (absent light and tag bracket).

Patton,

Good eye, you're right on all accounts. It had the plastic chain guard, but I just swapped for the chrome LTD guard. I also have the originally, slightly lower profile (smaller step and rear lip) seat, but it has 2 tears so needs a new cover. I actually like th bars and I removed the mirrors for now.

I appreciate the photoshopping, makes me want the fender eliminator more than ever..

I'm struggling with what to do next. The brakes grab great, but squeal.

Any idea where I can download the service manual?
