Greetings fellow K-riders!

I recently purchased a 1992 Kawasaki Vulcan 500AE as a back up/project bike. It's definitely turning into a project! It ram when I first got it, but needed a new petcock. (On order). I pulled the carbs and noticed gasoline leaking from the air intake carb duct. There is also a short somewhere in the electrical system where the ground lead from the battery connects to the bike.

Electrical short + gasoline = big trouble. :)

I bought a new wiring harness since the one on the bike was melted in a few spots, and also just purchased a set of carbs for a '94 Vulcan (I was told they are virtually interchangeable). I'm hoping the new wiring harness will fix the short in the system, and repair the turning signal problem (they aren't working).

I have a friend who used to own a 750 Vulcan, and he is going to help me fix the problems throw it all back together. Those wiring harnesses sure can be confusing. :)

I hope to have this done by spring. When I took it out for a test ride when I bought it, it ran pretty well, and that was before the new plugs and oil change and the leaking gas...

I'll be posting some pics at some point.

One of my neighbors/ riding partner who has gone to another state now has one of those bikes. It was a great bike and he wanted to sell it to me for $1000. That bike probably had more power than my kz650. The only thing I hated about it was the rear drum brakes, but it was cool. I might have a pic with a small glance of it

kzwolfsr do you still have the luggage rack and trunk?
I had a neighbor who had a 90' I think it was for sale for about 1000 but it had been dropped and had some dents.

So I got the new wiring harness installed and it only took about 2 hours to thread through the bike. Yeah, at the time, I was ready to pitch the entire job, but bit by bit, it slowly came together.

The new pet cock will arrive tomorrow, and the carbs a day or two after that. New solenoids, new coils, new battery... man, I hope this bike rocks when I am done with it. :)

Then I will definitely be posting some pics... and soon. :)

I hooked up the battery to the new wiring harness and the bike has juice... however, the blinkers still aren't blinking in the front, and it doesn't appear I have lights in the back (other than the brake light). Having running lights in the front is new tho, so that's a good thing.

Does anyone know what steps I have to take to get the blinkers to blink? If they have juice, what could be the problem? Is there a switch somewhere?

Any help would be appreciated.

I am also going to throw the carbs back in this week now that the new petcock is in place. The bike is coming together!

Those carbs tho... that could be a pain getting them back in. Is there a step by step guide somewhere?

Thanks!
