The engineering shop that rebiult the head on my KZ1000 used PlastiKote paint, the perfect finish, rebiulders cast finish, exact match. Resists Heat to 300 F, their web is www.plastikote.com , hope this helps with discoloration.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Thanks Tony. The Duplicolor is supposed to be good to 500F, but I guess it couldn't hold up to 15+20 minutes of idling. Heat from the exhaust valves plus heat radiating up from the headers.

New taller bar clamps to get the master cylinder up off the fork adjuster and mounted the mirrors. :silly:

I also made new dogbones to raise the back up a little and give more angle to the kick stand. I like the stance.

Bike looks great!!! BTW they have paint that will resist up to 1300 F, its what the pros use.

That looks so good man!!! And that seat really fits in well. I like to see a little free space in the back wheel area...new stance looks like its moving while standing still

Yeah, clearly from pictures you can see the frame is bent. :S if you could point to where, I'll start generous applications with a sledge hammer. The smooth bores are awesome and aren't going anywhere but on my bike.

All I can say here is, what a sexy beast... I can only hope mine comes out as clean and fresh looking as your build. Again, very nice work! Looking forward to the end product!

Not a lot of progress lately. Weekends have been maintenance on cars and my daily driver motorcycles.

Polished and painted the front rim. First time I've polished a wheel. Not my favorite task, but the result is worth it. Went to mount the calipers and apparently I repurposed the bolts for the foot peg mounts. 10mm fine is a bit harder to find in stainless.
