Weighed a 79 KZ650 SR at 480 lbs with no fuel and 4 into 1.
What's a ZRX weigh?

Stock SR = 12.75
ZRX ====== 14.25

By the way, my 750 twin had 12.5" shocks on it stock, and now does just fine with 14.75" Koni shocks.

Figured it was cheaper to convert to monoshock on my current 750 twin project, than to buy used ZRX shocks.

buy haveing the forks above the top tree, it makes it steer quicker (easier.) put them where u like the steering action best. the down side to having the forks above the trees is that u loose some ground clearance.
u could give the zrx shock a try . if u are not happy u can get your money back through ebay.
i have them on my kz1000.they are about 1" longer than my stock shocks.
since they are 1 inch or more in your case ?, longer, i would put the forks back to the stock position.

Might simply raise the rear end without adding any additional suspension travel. And which usually quickens the steering (which might aggravate head shaking tendency).

The spring rate may be a more important consideration.

Sometimes it helps to equally increase the pre-load on both shock springs.

so if im looking for aftermarket shocks its probably not the best route to go?

i noticed yesterday while looking at my bike that the forks are about 3/4 inch ABOVE the upper triple. i looked in the manual and its supposed to be JUST BELOW the upper triple...this is how i got the bike and i assumed this was how it was supposed to be, should i raise it back up?

I've have the same bike and have had the pleasure of those shocks on my own ZRX and even though I haven't had them together on the same bike I can only say that compared to stock shocks it would have to be as much of an improvement as you can imagine. Tim has just got this bike back together and will be giving us all a review on as much of the bike, etc. after his long haul trip he is taking on it.
