All I did was throw the assembly that I got off of ebay into the trunk of my car (no stabilizer bar to measure).

Caliper bolts are 3-3/4" c-to-c

closest caliper bolt is 1-1/4" c-to-c from the stabilizer bar bolt

stailizer bolt hole is 6-1/4" c-to-c from the center of the hole for the axle.

It looks as though you need the unit that the calipers ride on, since the pads sit on that unit, not the caliper.

If you need any more measurements than that, let me know.

Well, I can't find a part number for the brake stay. I guess it is just included in the assembly as the picture does not give it a number.

Lets start off with getting the o.d. of the axle on that bike.Maybe a 1000 caliper will bolt on,depending on the size of the brake rotor(next thing to check)...then We have to compare one caliper to the other,to see about the brakeline(mounting position)...
SO...Who's got an O.D. measurement on the axle for that bike?B)

Based on your description of what went wrong, do you need the caliper or the unit (the only un-numbered one in the drawing you provided) that the caliper attaches to? Might be a good time to pull it apart to check. I'll get you the diameter for a 1982 LTD1000.
