It comes out easy with a small screw driver.

That shows it pretty well Steve...... on the 650 its probably only a half inch or just over in the coil just like the Suzuki coil Ness shows..... but pretty much the same principle.
1978 KZ650 b-2
700cc Wiseco kit 10 to 1.
1980 KZ750 cam, ape springs, stock clutch/ Barnett springs.
Vance and Hines Header w/ comp baffle and Ape pods, Dyna S and green coils, copper wires.
29MM smooth bores W/ 17.5 pilots, 0-6s and 117.5 main
16/42 gearing X ring chain and alum rear JT sprocket.

The wire removal process may be assisted by working a little WD-40 down into into the cavity. If you could cram a small wire or similar between the coil body and the wire and then squirt some WD-40 inside the cavity and then twist the wire around before pulling it for removal.
