14 May 2013 17:29 - 14 May 2013 17:30Yes. Look at the diagrams for the 650-CSR & a 750-Ltd-4. The lens unit isn't sealed - the opening at the back accepts the H4 bulb.jbalet666 wrote:martin_csr wrote: I have the same bike and installed the halogen stuff from a 750-Ltd-4... very easy, plug n play.
You just need an H4 bulb, lens unit, & grommet. If you check the diagrams, you'll see that everything else is the same. Z1Enterprises.com has the bulb. The lens unit I got was a little cloudy but it cleaned up very easily.
see that was my first idea but i got kind of iffy seeing that it was a sealed unit i thought they were pretty model specific
but i much rather do this if at all possible
so you just replaced the lens unit to a later kawi one that utilized a ruseable bulb and got a halogen bulb?
luckily there is the largest bike swap meet in this area this coming weekend
FYI - according to the Kawasaki service manual for the 81 650, the stock sealed beam unit is a 60/50W. The stock Ltd H4 bulb is 60/55W, so it draws more power on low beam.

That's interesting as it is considerable higher than earlier models. Do you know if they changed the output of the generator or any other electrical stuff in '81? Ed

I have run the previous version of the Truck-lite 7" LED headlight for several years on a 80 KZ750-H1 and it works great, lots of light at night.
Flickers a little at idle but has not been a problem. Unique low beam.
Good luck,
Jim

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI have not used any LED headlights yet, it does look like interesting technology.
I always use a motorcycle specific H4 lamp assembly and upgrade the headlight circuit by installing a pair of relays, heavy 12 gauge wiring with an inline fuse on the positive side and a high temp headlight plug.

I'm using Otto's HID setup. It's been running for close to two years without any problems [once I replaced my faulty reg/rect].

Re: any LED headlight replacements suggestions!?
16 May 2013 15:58The 81 KZ650 is more similar to the 750-4s and has the same stator & electronic ignition (the earlier 650s had points ignition). The 81 650-D4 came stock w either a quartz-halogen headlight 60/55W or 60/40W.650ed wrote:martin_csr wrote: ......FYI - according to the Kawasaki service manual for the 81 650, the stock sealed beam unit is a 60/50W......

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationi have done this conversion on several cars from the 60's along with the horns. here is a plug and play for the lights just need to trim extra's for bike application.get the ceramic plugs regardless... been thinking of trying it on the kz along with a discrete air horn huge difference in lighting. will the bike keep up with the draw?

I highly recommend the Sylvania H6024ST, it is much whiter light and it shines 25% farther and wider and 35% brighter than a regular halogen bulb.

The 750-4 lens unit swap was easy & cheap, and an Emgo replacement bulb is less than $4. I'm still using the bulb that came w the headlight, but I got an Emgo from Z1 as a spare. ... not sure an auto parts store will have the H4 bulb. I guess a halogen sealed beam would be easier, though.
