considering a speedometer and tach upgrade
03 Oct 2011 19:31
ok after a year and a half i finally got my bike working.
took it for a small drive around the block and the speedometer doesnt seem to be reading right i was in 4th gear and it was reading only 20 mph i think it is slipping a little lol.
so my question is, would upgrading to an electronic speedometer and tach be a good idea or a bad idea? how much work would it be to get it working properly? and do you have any suggestions about which speedo and tach might be better.
i found this one and it looks good but still not sure if it is worth it yet.

clutch: how hard was it for you to change it over to the digital? and did you have to do much rewiring to get it working?

If you know a little bit about wiring, and have a wiring diagram it is a breeze. There are three main wires: one power, one ground, and one that is always hot for the clock to be on 24/7. Other than that it is one wire for the tach, a handful of indicator wires (where the wiring diagram will help you), and your speedo input (i use the universal magnet pick up and it works great). If you end up getting one and need some help with it, just let me know

Hello guys,
sorry to jump in the conversation. I am new here and don't really know how it work but the I subject was related to my question. I have a 84 kz750e with square headlight and rectangle speed and tach gauge. Winter is coming and I would like to change those 2 things for round ones. I think I would be able to do so for the headlight based on info I have found over internet but I am having trouble to find information as if I can swap the gauges for round one. I am not really looking for new digital one but a more classic style from older models.
Could you tell me what kind of information I should look for?
tks +

Here's the one I have on mine:
www.acewell.co.uk/Acewell%20Speedometers...tm?action=full&id=29
Acewell also has a Kawasaki speedo cable thingy. It doesn't work on our bikes right out of the box but if you've got an old speedo cable it's possible to change the nuts on the end with a little sandpaper and a bench grinder. So I didn't ahve to rig up a magnet like some do, I've got my stock speedo drive feeding the acewell directly, pretty cool.

no point useing a cable, when its so easy to go digital.
1 less cable up front too.
u can run the sensor off the back rim so the set up is nice and clean.
