which dyna ignition for 76 kz750 twin
19 Aug 2008 12:09
Hello,
I just got a 1976 kz750. I was told the reason it didn't run was because the points/condenser was bad and that I should replace it. After reading the forums I couldn't find out which dyna ignition will work. Thanks for your help.

According to the
DYNA
website, the DS2-2 will fit a 750-4. If you have the 2-cyl, I think you are stuck with points.

Not necessarily, the KZ440 ignition can be installed on the 750 twin, and aside from finding a used aftermarket ignition, I believe that's the only option now.
I'm pretty sure I have the 440 igniter, plug to adapt it to the 750 wiring harness, and the pickup, don't remember if I have the timing advancer though.

Hey Steell, can't the IE from the 750 M & K twins, also work?

Are these the parts from the 82-83 440LTD you're referring to Steell?
From what I can tell about the ignition system it's pretty simple. Battery->coil/points->spark plugs. If this is replacing the points, do we still want to get a Dyna coil or something similar? And whats the difference between the original points and whats coming from the 440?

21119, 21148, and 59026 are the parts needed, and they will work with stock, Accel 3 ohm, or Dyna coils. You also need the plug that connects the igniter (21119) to the bike wiring.
Yes, the KZ750K and KZ750M parts will work also, they're just "really" scarce, I have the KZ750M parts on my current 750 twin, the KZ750M motor I bought didn't have the ignition parts, but I had already bought the KZ750M ifnition parts on eBay some time before I bought the motor. I paid ~$40 for the motor on eBay (but had to drive 2 hundred miles one way to get it), but the ignition parts cost me more than the motor did (selling price anyway, cost me another $40 for gas).

There is an ignition kit on z1's site, part# su634-612,.
Is this for the twin or the 4 cyl?
if I search by 750 twin it does not show up, if I search by brand it is there.
Thanks again for all the info as I am new to this motorcycle and would like to get it running as soon as possible but I don't want to buy a bunch of stuff that will not work.

I can't find it at Z1 when I search for that part number, but if it's an electronic ignition it's for the 750 four cylinder.
It's definitely not for a 750 twin.

I talked to Z1 and they have 2 kits for the 750 B-1 on back order. I was also told that if I can find parts for it that I should buy whatever I can find because they are scarce.
Anyone have a good source for parts for the 750 B-1 please let me know.
I recommend Z1. They were very helpful and knowledgeable.
No, I do not work for them.

Old Bike Barn
has them (they claim), try ordering from them. I see they are the same part for the KZ400 too.
Just don't expect very rapid delivery from OBB - Z1 they ain't - and I think we all agree that Z1 rocks!
