sorry , not a kawasaki question but my co-worker drives a 1982 honda nighthawk 750 and was wondering how many amps should it be drawing when running. his has blown 2 regulators and is trying to find out what is causing his problem.

Generally speaking, the bike as a whole will take somewhere around 10 amps, maybe up to 15 amps. Honda regulators are the worst I've dealt with, and their alternators aren't good either. I find the most problematic ones are from the early 1980's CB's. Especially the ones using electromagnetic rotors with brushes.

those years of cb750 900 1000
79~1983 are prone to electrical problems
it is a emf type of charging system. or excited field
the regulator is not the problem!!
and probably never "blew the reg" to begin with
#1)what is the resistance between the slip rings on the rotor? Insulation Breakdown test?
#2) bare wire on the brush holders grounding out
#3)condition of battery? to have a active field it must load test strong.
#4) how long are the brushes?
there are other tests to isolate the problem.
don't throw any more parts at it until you properly diagnose the condition of the system as a whole.
