Which citylight for the cafe racer?
23 Jan 2007 19:53
City Lights are like parking lamps. They are mandatory in Europe and much of the rest of the world... I'm putting a European lamp on my bike that I am building, and I'm including a red citylamp.
Which lamp looks the best though? These are 4 seperate bulbs that I've acquired.
Numbers 1-4 from top to bottom.
What do you think?
This lamp would NOT be on when the bike is riding... it's just kind of a cool addition for when the bike is sitting there looking badass.

Any of them LED? If the bike's not running, and knowing that you're probably going to use a tiny battery in this bike, I'd get something that doesn't draw much current.
And be sure it can't be on when the bike is running, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to have a red light on the front of anything other than an emergency vehicle everywhere in the US.

No, it's not on when running.
And yes, it's on when the bike is not running, assuming I flip a switch.
All of them are LED, and draw EXTREMELY LITTLE CURRENT.

IMHO, the #3 light is what I would go with, the first 2 seem a bit dim, and the 4th makes me want to pull over and get out my license and insurance card!:pinch:
How big is the "city light", and where will it be mounted? Is it one of those deals where it's right next to the headlight? you have any pics of examples?

Sorry Dude, Just not familiar w/ the concept of the city light. But if it were me, and this were to comply w/ some bureaucratic regulation, I'd make it as small and unnoticeable as possible...like the first one. Just curious, but what's the intent of having a light on a vehicle that's not running? Does it just make it easier for thieves to spot in the fog or what?

I agree about #4. haha
It's a small bulb about as big around as a pencil. It's actually an LED in this case, so it takes almost no power.
Here's an example of one in a 7"...
You can see it on the bottom, below the H4 housing.
They are OE on most bikes in Europe.

Gotcha. in that case, I'd still go with #3 personally.

If the idea is to keep folks from running into your parked bike, perhaps the most noticable would be the best...
