Im giving it a go as I do have an extra shim I got from a buddy. And I am with you. I don't wanna just stare at it waiting on the shims to get here. But I do not want to order the full kit. So printed the valve adjustment chart and gonna go with that after I move shims around so I only (hopefully) have to order a couple at $8 each instead of a bunch for $100.

Good to hear your digging into the valve clearance issues.

If I may comment, Im unaware of a “full kit”. Kawasaki only sells them individually, unless you find lots for sale on evilbay. I’d strongly suggest ONLY using factory shims. Personally I have only used KHI parts so I can’t speak from experience but if you search here you will find others have had bad luck with aftermarket SOT shims.

Sometimes the best course of acting is no action, let it sit till you can fix it correctly. Riding a poorly functional machine is not as satisfactory as a great running machine.

Aslo it’s almost impossible to properly diagnose a problem if a corresponding interconnected system is also faulty.

Valves are now all within spec. Few years ago I bought a parts kz1000. Was under the assumption that because there were no valves in it all was missing. went through a couple of bags and found the buckets. Shims still in place. Going to put it back together and see what happens. In the event carb 3 is still blowing fuel I will pull those and clean again. Time is not a concern. With the weather here and the mandatory lock down stuff I got time. Thanks for the info. Ill let ya know the out come.

If your still have problem with #3 carb, might I suggest you test the float level before you pull the whole rack. Are you familiar with the clear tube method? You’d need to put the bike in a level position, your bike didn’t have a center stand from the factory but you can add one for testing purposes.

Pulled it off the stand today. Rode around the property, then to the store. No leaking. Runs ok. Hearing a little rattle out of the valve cover. Gonna set it to the side for now. kids dirt bike needs attention. Shes ready to ride her bike for the summer. Thanks to all for the help and input.

Good to hear, thanks for letting us know.
The rattling may be the cam chain (check the tensioner - hopefully an easy fix), but at least the leaking has stopped.

If the rattle is at idle, could be badly out of sync carbs.
