Replaced all gaskets on the top end. Now when it fires up (no issues there) carbs 2 and 3 are not sending the fuel into the cylinder but into the pod filters. Put out two fires thus far. Is this more of a ring issue or a carb issue? 1978 KZ1000LTD. no mods but the pod filters and the frame.

Too high or stuck? Will pull them again later. Did rebuild them last year though. Set the carb height based on book with a micrometer.

Sticking likely. Hope you rejetted for the pods or you will be pulling the carbs again in the near future.

Are the coils connected to the right cylinders?

To confirm that it's an issue with the floats you could just set the petcock to prime. If it doesn't overflow then the float height should be fine. Are 2 and 3 firing?

This just happened to me after doing a carb rebuild. I thought I did everything right. Ultrasonic cleaned. New O-Rings, gaskets, rejet etc.

When I started the bike fuel was flowing from the pods. All 4. The bike was running but something was very wrong.

Could not be a case of stuck valve if all 4.

I had installed the needles upside down. Stupid mistake.

Make sure you drain your oil as it will likely be contaminated with gas.

Good troubleshooting tip, if float levels are correct and needles are seating properly you should be able to leave a petcock on prime (or on for a manual one) without any leakage from carbs.

Float height has nothing to do with float level. Float level is what you need, set the levels using the wet method as described in the manual.

Not a true statement. Don’t trust the measurement method. It’s just to get you close. The only true float level is achieved by the wet method as Baldy110 states. Been there done it. Truly a PITA. COMPLETELY WORTH IT
