Hey I just picked up a ‘77 kz650b with low mileages. The PO took the carbs off and purchased rebuilt carbs a while ago so he gave me both. I noticed one set has air screw with no fuel pilot and the other opposite. Will it be a problem if I use one or the other? I believe The bike hasn’t ran since ‘82.

Either or should be fine but be sure to fully rebuild them before putting them into service. And please don't buy "carb kits" which are a waste of money. Fully break down the carbs, soak in carb dip or an ultrasonic cleaner, and then reassemble with new O-rings and gaskets. Cycleorings.com has a kit and Z1 Enterprises should be able to supplement with anything missing.

I took the one apart and all rings and gaskets look brand new with no cracks. I was doing the bench sync with the hanger wire and noticed the difference. One more concern, do the fuel pilots need a spring in gem then bc 1 out of the 3 had a spring in it and caught me off guard. I looked at diagrams and on k1 and didn’t see one so I’m assuming no but want to make sure.

The pilots should have the spring. You may be ok without, but I believe without the spring the adjustments will be loose and move. The spring holds your adjustment. The 77s came with pilot screw carbs, then in 78 they went to airscrew, then later in 78 back to pilot screws with smaller carbs. They were all over the place in 1978. The airscrew type are easier to work with in my opinion, not that my opinion matters.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
