Yes please do! If you do end-up with both late74-75 and 76-81 it will be readily evident which goes where. As Slmjim added extra notes for you. Also note that they changed the float needle seat from a (early)2.0 to a 2.3 starting "maybe" in 76? This might have a deeper/shallower float pin taper hole if you are using Genuine Mikuni items. This and the different castings, 2170(late 74-75) to Z1200(76-77 900), might of had taller/shorter pin post hole location in relation to final valve float pin assy height. Because of the leverage, ie math and all, a little change by the float needle assy does a lot at the float end.

A little something extra if you want to experiment. These are a Keihin based Viton-tipped Float Needle Assy but I have been using these to replace the steel and brass OEM items for years. Plus the OEM version is a 2.4. Same thread Diameter and Pitch just cannot use the filter screen. Used on the VF750-1100 Honda 82-85 Sabre, gravity fed NOT the Magna, it used a smaller hole because of the fuel pump.

Well, by golly, the 75 and 76 floats differ.
For 75 the pin is centered, half float above pin, half float below pin
For 76 the pin is lower, 2/3 above pin, 1/3 below pin.

Thanks for the pic 73z1.

It's a little difficult for us to see the difference with the pivot ends overlapped like that. Could you please post an additional pic with the pivot pin ends butted parallel against each other instead of overlapped?

Our question is; could the brass be formed enough just short of where it enters each float to make up for the height difference of the pivot?

Another long shot thought; Years ago we saw a thumper carb where someone had installed the float upside down, resulting in fuel level way too low. Of course, installing it correctly solved the problem. Could the brass be formed enough on the '76 float that it would work in a Z1 carb, in either upside-down or right side-up orientation?

Orientation of up/down is always little float drop control tang facing bowl. Most all floats of this type had them. A lot of the early brass types didn't.

>>> "Could the brass be formed enough on the '76 float that it would work in a Z1 carb, in either upside-down or right side-up orientation?"
Easy to convert, hold brass with needle nose, bend float to centered.
In photo you can see 75 is centered, 76 is not.
