Mid way through stripping my carbs down. Bikes been stored for 23 years so you can imagine how gummed up everything is.
Issue 1.. managed to remove one pin holding the float on, but the other 3 wont shift. Dont want to hit it too hard incase it breaks the post..any tip ?
Issue 2..ordered new main and pilot jets as follows. Main 127.5 and pilot 37.5
The ones I've removed are 112.5 and 37.5 !! Seems low to me ( 112.5 )
Will this be ok or do I need to order more jets ? Bit of a novice with the whole "carb" thing..

If anything is frozen or stuck soak it with Kroil for 2 or 3 days then try again. I have found Kroil to work every time. Ed

What size jets does the factory reccomend? Does the bike have all its original air filter aparatus and stock exhaust?

It would be helpful to put your bike info in the signature line, so readers will know which year and model is being discussed, and so you won't have to constantly be posting an answer to the inevitable questions.

Have put my bike details in the signature. Not really sure what the factory recommends for jet sizes. Bike was put away in 1996 with 11000 miles on the clock so I would assume its how it came out the factory ?
Bike is totally stock air filter/airbox and exhausts.

The factory service manual will have that info. You can download a PDF copy from this website. Look under the Articles tab.

With a fully stock bike, the original jetting will work great.

Thanks for that, pdf really useful. From what I can see it says main jet 122.5 and pilot 37.5
So my pilot's right but my main is 112 ?

I wonder if somebody replaced the originals with some aftermarket jets that use a different numbering system?

Yeah, not knowing the bikes history I'll never know !!
Reckon I'd be safer cleaning the jets that came out and put them back in. For now anyways..

Did you look to see if the needles are stock? If so, I would be inclined to get the factory jets so you know what you have. Also, if you have any tuning difficulties, you will have eliminated one more culprit.

The other side of the argument is that it is likely the bike was ridden with those jets, so they may be worth taking a chance on.

Old bikes are fun, eh?

Hope this is a better picture. The gasket seems to go round a hole in the bowl. Is this normal ? Will the fuel come out of here or should the fuel level never get that high ? Sorry for looking dim but carbs are all new to me !!
