New Rider Here - 80's Kz750 4 cyl carb rebuild kit - Why 2 different styles?

Hi. I am the new owner of an 80's Kz750. There is a leak in the far right carb so I want to fix it and I figured I should just get a full rebuild kit.

On ebay there are two different styles of gasket I've seen for the Kz750:

1. Thin gasket

2. Thick gasket

Can someone tell me why they are different?

2 completely different types of carbs. The first one is for an 80-82 .

PLEASE add your bike's exact year and model to your signature line. Thanks, Ed

Your bike has Keihin carbs that use an O-ring for the float bowl.
Aftermarket carbs kits like those are very hit or miss; the quality ranges from acceptable to pure junk. It's a big gamble. You would be better off opening up the carbs and inspecting what you have and reusing all but the soft parts like O-rings and possibly float needles (which have a rubber tip). I've posted all the required O-ring sizes previously in different older threads so some searching should turn up that information pretty easily.

Oh, and cracked float bowl overflow tubes is very common on those Keihin's, which will cause overflow like described. I've posted information on how to fix those previously too. Please search and PM me if you can find the threads.

By Oldjeep: 2 completely different types of carbs. The first one is for an 80-82....

That's not exactly correct about the years. The o-ring type gasket was also used on at least one 83 model & the flat fiber gaskets were used on the 82 GPz. So he does needs to indicate what model it is & maybe post a pic to make sure of what he's got.

The 1980 would be Keihin. No Mikuni on the 750 until 1982.

He didn't specify a year. He just said it's an 80s 750, so who knows what he's got. :)

You guys?

The user who posted this really vague question is highlighted as 'banned'. If the ban is accurate, we can probably guess who it is. I'm not sure why anyone is trying to answer him.

I don't think it's our friend Jeff. He was banned for business name as a user name.

Ah, fair enough - thanks.

There was an Austrian film director named G. W. Pabst. There's no excuse for the Labatt, though. :)
