Carburetor Question
05 Mar 2019 15:10 - 05 Mar 2019 15:47
I have a nifty set of vapor blasted VM24SS for my KZ650. The person I bought them from has them jetted for pods. Im going back to the original 102.5 and 15 setup. But I was told he put the needle in the "4th slot."
I have no experience dithering with carb needles. Will the bike run properly with the stock main and pilot jet, but with the needle in 4th? If not, why, and how do I adjust the need back to stock position?
Thank you gentlemen.

4th slot from the top is stock position. While you have them off the bike set the float height using the wet method and bench sync the slides. You need to sync them on the bike when running to fine tune them to the characteristics of each cylinder but a bench sync will get them close enough to run. Vm26 are not stock on 650. Vm24 are the stock carb size. 26 should run ok though.
Set the idle screw to 1.5 turns from lightly seated and again fine tune with a colourtune when running.

Sorry. I meant to say they are VM24 SS not 26,

Leave the needle clip in the stock slot, install 17.5 pilots and keep the mains at 102.5. Buy a set of 105 mains in case the 102.5 are to small but you should be fine.

Shouldn't he go with #15 pilots with the stock airbox? He didn't say, but I think he'll be using the airbox.

Is it a stock air box with a stock paper filter or K & N type filter?

Im using the airbox. No way would I add pods to this old stocker. So I put #15 pilot and 102.5 mains in and took out the 17.5 and 110 main.
