Hello,

The bike have stock air filter, stock pistons,

1/ when the bike have original parameters i can just have correct idle when the engine is hot.
But it's after 30 min and not before or the engine slowdown and the engine stop.
So when i have to take the bike at the morning for example i need to run with the starter....
Main jet 105, pilot jet 110 if i remember well.

2/ actually i replace some parts of the carburetor : main jet 110, pilot jet 120( because i prefer the noise of the bike.... )
Then i can have the correct idle when i start but when the engine is hot the idle slowdown and the engine stop after 1 min.

1/ Is it normal to have to preheat the engine 30 min to have the correct idle ?
2/ I would like to keep the second parameters but is it possible ? (i think i need pods)

Regards

What year and model is the motorcycle?
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

30 minutes to warm up is not normal;. If you have the stock air filter, stock exhaust, and the engine is stock you need to use the stock carb jetting. Installing pods is not going to fix the problem, they will simply add another variable that you will need to consider when trying to fix the problem. Ed

Those jets are way too mahooosive for any airbox/exhaust 650 combination. It must be running very very rich. That would partially explain the long warm up time, but not 30 mins worth of warm up time. I cant imagine whhý it takes that long to get warm. Im guessing that the over rich mixture would explain the dieing at idle when warm though.

Z1000J2 somewhat modified!

What i can find for a kz1000 1978 ltd b2is:

vm26ss - main jet 105 - pilot jet 15 -

With stock motorcycle can i increase performace ?
Because with man jet 110 and pilot jet at 120 i have a lot of performance .... but loose idle.

If it was my bike I would first try using the stock specs. I don't know where you got the spec sheet shown in your posting, but it doesn't show the same main jet size as the Kawasaki Service Manual. Take a look at Page 136 in the link below. Ed

Hello,

@Patton : yes those specs are the stock ones :)
@650ed : thank you for this service manual. I use the kz1000/kz1100 actually, but i will keep this one too.

I try this morning those parameters :

VM26SS
Main Jet 115R
Needle Jet O-5/2
Jet Needle 5DL31 (clip in grove 3)
Pilot Jet 17
Pilot Screw 1.0 ± 1/4 turn out
Throttle Valve Cutaway 1.5
Design Fuel Level 32±1 mm
Service Fuel Level 3±1 mm

--> Like the specs for a kz900 76 and the bike is perfect. Good sound, good speed, good idle. :)

Do you have an oil cooler on the bike? If so, have you run it without the cooler?
