Brazing takes place typically between 1,100 and 1,500 degrees F. Aluminum melts at 1,221 F.

I must be missing something lol...if all these people braze aluminum, how would it not work? (I'm guessing this is one of my "been hit in the head to hard moments)

Brazing is not typically done with aluminum.  There are some special brazing alloys that allow some sort of brazing to be done but it's not the same as brazing in the typical sense like with steel.  At any rate, I would NOT even try with a carb.  The heat will just distort something and cause problems.  A threaded insert install would be easy and that's the proper repair for that application.  Where I work in the aerospace industry just about every threaded hole that's not in a steel part gets a steel helicoil installed.  We do these all the time and it's very easy.

Ah..thanks. I'm a fan of helicoils, but have welded and tapped steel, was curious about aluminum.

I would try a M4 rivet nut, with a shorted length and a little Loctite

I went the helicoil route. Well it was a knockoff kit called EZ Coil or something.

First one worked like a charm. Second one was a bear. It had almost no clearance because of the enrichment circuit. The insert got stuck, had to back it out with an easy-out.
