Not me. Why not just use carb cleaner that is designed for that specific task? It is readily available at auto parts stores. Ed

 I've used lacquer thinner to remove pilot jets , emulsion tubes and slides. that were stuck and were not easily removed. :) after soaking with lacquer thinner for a day or so they screwed right out B) .........dissolved the crud/gum..

:pinch: but I've never used it as a carburetor cleaner . I have 5 gallons of carb dip for that :woohoo:

The reason I inquired about lacquer thinner is because I have 5 gallon that I've had for a while and if it would work I wouldn't have to cough up any dough for carb cleaner.

imo , lacquer thinner by itself would not get them very clean at the very least not as clean as a carburetor dip/cleaner..... read whats in a can of dip....... more than one bad cleaner are used in the mix .... sure I like to save dough, :( but if you want to do it right my guess is you have to ante up for some dip....

I use carb spray or non chlorinated brake cleaner for cleaning car/bike parts. I also use acetone.

I have a 5 gallon bucket of ZEP cleaner /dip Thinking I paid less than $ 100.00 at NAPA . I think the napa branded can is ZEP also  shop around to get the best deal......... I'm sure auto zone , ,advance, koi, and others will carry different brands ...... of course the e.p.a. has tamed the solvents down in the last few years. I like the zep brand as it will remove most of the OEM black paint from suzuki carbs and :) it does not damage rubber or plastic parts if left in the dip for less than 3 hours. be sure to wear gloves and eye protection as it will make you shed skin and eye damage if you get it in your eyes...... :S

i forgot to mention a bucket will last 5 to 8 years if you screen the solids out of it. I pour the cleaner thru a mesh screen into a 5 gallon plastic bucket....... after screening the dip I put it back in the metal bucket. screening the solids out keeps it working like it was intended to do( works better, lasts longer). you know it's bad stuff when it eats the metal can from the inside out  LOL
