26 May 2012 12:35I found the manual at kawasaki.com. thanks for the tip.Patton wrote:Yes, and also get the standard model manual when it becomes available.davem wrote: ...Should I get the supplement if I dont have the manual origional manual to go with it?
It's best to have both the basic manual and the LTD supplement.
Good Fortune!
couple questions...
I bought a vacuum guage from harbor freight(mainly because I cant find a sync tool locally and wanted to get this done this weekend.)I did the sync acording to my clymer but only used one guage one carb at a time. I recorded the reading and moved on to the next carb.DO YOU SEE ANY ISSUE WITH DOING IT LIKE THiS instead of all 4 hooked up at once?
The only thing I couldnt get exact before the sync was fuel mixture. Bike ran pretty decent but 2 --4 cylinders were lean based on plug readings. I just couldnt get them to change.
I synced each carb to 10-11 Inch
The bike runs goood but still not 100%
I get a small variation idle speed. There is no air leak at carb mounts.
Timing is set
advancer and everything in there operates as it should and is oiled.
The bike has 4 into 1 yoshimura exhaust stock airbox except the piece under the seat after the air filter is not attached. This was missing when I got the bike but the bike ran great untill i tooke the carbs off for cleaning and I changed the oil.(to change oil I had to remove the exhaust system)It has 112.5 main and 117.5 pilot
It really sucks when you cant get everything to go back 100%

try on of these simple tools, it will let you know right away if 1 carb is pulling more Vacuum.
Very sensitive to your adjustments.

Should the carbs still be tuned to the specs in my manual with the aftermarket exhaust and not complete airbox?

Personally, I wouldn't try to use a tool that did not show the vacuum on all 4 carbs at the same time. When synching the carbs any adjustment to 1 that affects the idle speed can affect the vacuum being drawn by the other carbs, so it's nice to be able to watch them all at the same time so the affect of adjustments across the entire carb rack can be seen real-time. I'm not saying you could not synch the carbs using a single vacuum tube, but it could make the process very slow and frustrating. Ed

The exact reading is not as important as having them all the same and you are right about the mods affecting the readings. That said, generally the higher the vacuum, the better.

P.S. 650ed is right, reading all four is easiest, but you have to be able to read at least 2 at a time.

That is going to be a very painfully experience. I had a buddy with experience help me with mine. You really need the correct tool. Every time you adjust 1 they all can change a bit the ammount of adjustment will be different on each one. IMHO, take your time and use the right tool on this one.

This tool won't have any specific vacuum makings or #'s. It is a very simple way of seeing which carb is pulling more vacuum than another. It is very easy to build, costs hardly anything, is very sensitive to the slightest changes you make. It can set those carbs up nicely. Not to different from using a clear tube to see your float bowl fuel level.

Top. I'm syncing my carbs and the needles are bouncing EVERYWHERE. there's no dampening adjustment on the manometers. What the best way to settle the gauges down? Would clamps on the hoses work?
Also, I've got the carbs where you need to take the caps off to adjust them but removing them creates a vacuum leak. Do i just go ahead and sync them as is? I don't see any way around it.

That's what I was wondering. I have 29mm smoothbores and was wondering how you adjust the carbs with the tops off. Would they not leak because of this?

A lot of old 29 smoothbores leak like crazy around the slides when you do a carb synch. There's a simple way of addressing that situation.

Is this what you have in mind, LC?
