weird 1982 kz1000 issue
16 May 2011 20:22
hey guys have a 82 kz1000j good compression fresh rebuild...it seems number 1 cylinder not burning the way it should plenty of spark. but at about 2500rpm starts wanting to break up then above that mark revs up just fine...seems to have a flutter when riding and its driving me nuts..advancer seems to b working properly i must be over looking something... has stage 3 kit in carbs ape air filters and v&h 4into1....
cylinders 2 3 and 4 look to be decent but number one looks like it barely has anything on the spark plug it is running a tad rich which is why it looks like its getting nothing on it... i noticed today when i rap the throttle the center spools on 3 and 4 carbs are lifting but not on 1 and 2 carb... any suggestions???

Not sure what you mean by its rich, but getting nothing on it???
What are spools on the BS34 carbs??? Do you mean the throttle return springs?
Sounds like the carb is not getting enough pilot mixture/not firing properly.
Compression is good on the cylinder? Lick your thumb and place it over the plug hole. Crank the engine with the starter, and press down hard. If it pops your finger off no matter how ahrd you press, then the compresion is fine for running - and it wont suck your finger in - dont be afraid
Have you tuned the mixture screws, or just set them to a default # of turns?
Could be a really bad vacuum sync that is nearly closed when cruising/idle position, then opens up with throttle input.

i was just thinking about vacuum sync...i refer to the big valves in the middle of the carbs with air filters off... well its running rich enough to see it on the plugs thats why 1 looks dry to me.... could the sync still be the cause even when using a set of gauges??? i dunno it has me stumped..i have a morgan carb tuner and a 4 gauge sync tool i got off ebay and synced them with the dial style gauges i purchased
