The first thing that I would go after, even though you say no problems with overflow, would be float height and a blocked or clogged overflow.

Yep. Washing down a cylinder/s is the safe bet. In case you're not familiar with what we're saying, there's more fuel getting into the cylinder than it can burn and it's leaking past your rings into the oil. It doesn't mean you have bad rings, just that gas is less viscous than oil and can/ will run past the rings if there is too much in the chamber.

Make sure that you do not leave the Petcock in "Prime" position. Also when the motor is off, and Petcock in "ON" or "Reserve", no fuel should leak through petcock to carbs.

I second that -- here's an easy way to find out if your petcock is still flowing gas when it shouldn't be and maybe flowing into the engine -- put it in RES or ON and remove the petcock's vacuum line and the fuel hose (engine off, of course). If gas still comes out with no vacuum pulling the petcock diaphagm open and the petcock's on RES or ON -- the petcock needs cleaning or rebuilt. Might be overrunning just carb #1 if you park your bike on the sidestand, then flowing into the #1 cyclider.

figured it out . leaving gas in funnel with bike not running is like having it on prime all the time . plus 3 and 4 carbs were sucking tons of gas . bike runs perfectly now . thanks everyone . this forum rocks !!
