1975 KZ400 - Petcock Replacement?
13 May 2011 13:48
So my newly aquired KZ400 has a leaky petcock that someone has globbed up a bunch of JB
Weld or something of that nature on in a poor attempt to fix it. I have a new Honda
petcock that is identical save for the outlet positions- no biggie there. My question is-
how the heck do you change the thing?

2 bolts. Unless it's a single pip threaded petcock. If you can't see the bolts I would guess they jbwelded the bolts. Sounds like a real hack job. You need to get the jb off and get the bolts out. Can you supply a picture of where the petcock attaches to the tank? Might help with suggestions as to how to fix it.
Take it from me cuz I found

When yours, it could have been.

It's not the threaded type, that's the only type I've ever changed. What I'm seeing here is that there is a removable (sediment?) bowl on the bottom of the petcock...the one on the bike has been Jb'd on and therefore doesn't look like a removable part anymore. I'm guessing that comes off and
there lies the screws?

Looks like you need to remove the sediment bowl. I guess Honda uses the same one:
