setting the fast idle cam CV32

I'm trying to follow the service manual directions for setting the idling link/idle cam clearance on my 305. When I follow the directions, eg back idle screw out until there is clearance between it and the pulley (with choke closed), then open the choke and bend the idling link until there is 1mm clearance between it and the cam, well if I do that the choke wont even close all the way. Help?

Poorly translated at best. Ignore the part about pushing up the idling link. Just adjust the clearance as depicted in the diagram.

It's not that your posts are being ignored. It's more because we don't hear too much about 305's. All I'm going on is a close reading of the section of the manual you posted.

Stick around, we need someone with the experience you're gaining on KZ singles.

Well another question is about the diagram. They show the clearance with the choke closed, but the directions say to check it with the choke open...which one do I believe?

I assume the diagram is depicting part # 6 as choke open. If you pushed it down till the cam started pushing on the pulley ( part 2) there would be no clearance.

I believe the diagram is showing a non choked condition (Choke Open).

Good Luck

I took the carbs around to several shops today (none motorcycle shops but several work on various small engines) and all of them scratched their head
at the service manual directions. Fortunately I called a shop that knew exactly what I was talking about and they said the choke should be about 3/4 closed when it engages the throttle for some high idle. That not only made sense to me, it also happened to be about where it was set already. That leaves much more than 1 mm clearance when you lift up as described in the instructions, but so be it. I installed the carbs and they seem to work the way they should. Thanks for the help.

You say carbS, I say WHAT? I thought it was a single. Are you aware of BuyKawasaki.com?

Here's a link to your bike's parts diagrams.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Yes the KZ305 is a twin. Maybe now I'll get some respect around here, huh. Thanks for the link. I like to use the diagrams at www.powersportsplus.com/ because they load faster on my dial up. AFAIK they are the same diagrams.
