KZ 750 4 cylinder Gas Mileage
08 May 2011 23:40
Hey guys,
Took my bike out for a good long trip this weekend, and was wondering what kind of mileage other KZ 750 4 cylinder owners get? Because I ended up running out of gas earlier then I thought  , my trip meter said 98.2 miles and my tank was bone dry. I have a 1981 Kz 750-4 slightly modded with a oil cooler, gpz intake cam, stock air box with Uni style stock filter and a R.C. 4 into 1 exhaust system, and of course larger jets. I knew that my mileage would go down with upgrades and larger jets. But didn't figure that bad, if that's bad?
Thanks,
Dylon

My 750 twin when stock got 40mpg in city only driving. Highway mileage would vary from 60 down to 45 depending on cruise speed: 60 mph = 60 mpg, while 70 - 75 mph was where I got 45 mpg.
The four hole bikes suck more gas than the twins. If you have changed the jets and or needle position, that can really drop gas mileage.
The biggest single gas eater is rider weight and passenger if carried. A windshield will really drop highway mileage because of wind drag.

I want to say I get about 60 mpg with my 80 750-4, completely stock. No windshield and I weighed about 225 lbs.

Ic, well I want to say I am getting roughly 37 mpgs, on a mild build, no wind screen and I weigh in about 150, so I don't no what the deal is, I don't beat the thing to death and I'm not always on it, so...

I should mention I ride 55-60 mph the ENTIRE time when I get this mileage. I have a long, county highway ride to work. Not sure how your's is geared either w/ resepct to the sprockets.

Ic,ya I got stock gearing, and usually drive 60 to 65 mph (60mph=5000rpm). But I guess I should mention I'm still in the process of tuning, so that doesn't help, but hopefully when I get it correct, then it'll be better.

I've got a 14T front sprocket on mine and I wouldn't go back to a 13 for anything. Way nicer to rider.
My bike info:
81 LTD750 H2
kerker 4-1 w/ custom cherry bomb can (don't ask)
Aftermarket coils
UNI Pod filters
Dynojet Stage 3
~200lbs (me)
Mileage: 33
I've owned 2 of these and neither one got good mileage, stock or not

I hear you jason8887, My bike is about the same as yours. Just sucks these bikes don't get great mileage, but I went from a 86' honda rebel 250(70mpgs) to my kz 750, but well worth it, for the HUGE!!! power difference. HA ha.
Thanks for the input guys.

another question about a 750 twin stock, today on the way to work the motor bogged right at 100 miles, switched over to res. and went and filled it up, it held a little over 2 gallons, so my question is-- is this right about what you got before switching over to res. only 100 miles seems kinda low to me. thanks
