Air box hookup?
05 May 2011 00:02
I cant figure out where all these hoses go from my air box. My manual doesn't show. 78 kz650. One I know goes to top of motor, other just hangs straight down but there us one with a 90 degree elbow. Where does it go?

there should be one coming out the bottem that connects to crankcase vent

It's okay to remove the emissions paraphernalia, connect the valve cover intakes, and plug unused vacuum nipples.
Also plug or tape over the airbox hole where emission hole entered the airbox.
Lots of good info on kawasaki.com, including parts diagrams, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc.

Good Fortune!
The 1978 KZ650 models didn't have that any of that emissions control stuff.

I know, but the drawing is wrong. If you take a look at the KZ650-C2 cylinder head cover picture you'll notice they show the non-emission cover for the C2 (even though they call them KZ860s), same on the B2. Whoever did the text for the drawings was pretty sloppy. Kawasaki started putting on the emission stuff in 1979. I have an original Kawasaki KZ650-C Parts Catalog that covers the C1 and C2 and it shows the cover and air cleaner without the emission stuff. Ed
Here's a C2:

Here's a C3:
forums.kz650.info/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=662
On the C3 you can see one of the emission humps on the top front of the cylinder head cover, not there on earlier models.

all these hoses go from my air box --- sounds like more than just two hoses from air box.
78 kz650 --- any doubt about the year model?
Picture? Or better description of "all those hoses?"

Wondering if it's the correct air box?
That would be the one without all those hoses.

Good point! Here's a pic of the '77-'78 airbox:
