a set of 28mm carbs from a 79-80 1000 would be a good upgrade, and it would be cheap.
if you want to spend $700.00 and change a set of 29mm keihen cr specials would wake it up nicely,a small motor like that with a small port stock head and stock cams can only move so much air.

Interpreting here....
Unless you have your head ported and probably drop in larger cams the flat slides are likely too large for the motor (pretty sure 34mm is the smallest they come in) which will likely greatly impact the low end performance in a negative way.
Sound right Wireman?

you could wait and watch(along with a few thou other watchers) for a set of old school 29 mm smooth bores......they are around 24-7 these days on ebay and some go as low as 550...i got a set for 275 once and other get em on c-list junkers included in the parts bike...check the classifieds here.......
or get some 28 mm pumper carbs and deal with all the crap they cause imo....either way
the 29 mm will wake that bike up big time and 700-800 for a set of new cr specials 29 is really not much if you plan on this being your bike for years to come....
