Im a noob just bought a 1978 KZ 650 it was sitting for 9 months with gas in it so the carbs were a mess. I tore down and cleaned checked the floats and all seemed fine. Reinstalled on bike now the two out side cylinders are not firing (exhaust cold when running) and gas is coming out of the exhaust. Im lost on what to do. Im sry if this is a repost i am just trying to get this fixed with the rising gas prices. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Simple question, but have you checked for spark?

What about float levels on the carbs?

For sure check for spark. The outer cylinders (1 & 4) both fire from the same coil and same set of points, so it's possible the points, coil, or connections for 1 & 4 need attention. Ed

Danny, I dont mean to be condescending or give you a plateful of stuff to do, but you really need to get yourself a good Service Manual specific to your bike.

It has a maintenence section that is very long and thorough, and should be performed correctly before the bike is placed in service. After all, we're talking about 2 wheels here, not 4 :pinch:

By all means continue tinkering and learning on your own while the manual is getting there, maybe you'll get it going enough to take some slow "around the block runs", then get her ready for actual use.

If you already have/know all this, then jsut ignore!

Best of luck, and keep the questions coming.

Ok thank you for fast responses. Yes i have checked spark and all seem to have spark. The carb was all clogged up i came to decision to buy carb rebuild kits for all 4. Does anyone know a place where i can get them. I found set of 4 for 65.00 plus S&H. Also about the manual i found a site claiming to get the book in a pdf file but im not sure that would be the best. Does anyone have this pdf file one and or know where to get a hard copy fairly cheap? Thanks for the help.

I have a problem with the petcock where it does not shut offf so it flooded the 2 center cylinders which gas would come out of exhaust and filled the oil with gas. I had to change oil and for not i pluged the petcock and have the one fuel line feeding into the carb.
