assembly lube for carb rebuild

what is recommended for assembly lube when rebuilding a set of carbs?

I have seen some light grease used on the choke rods and external moving pieces, but nothing on the carbs themselves.

So nothing on the slides or anything else...I was going to put assembly lube on the connecting rod, and the choke

You can polish the slides and slide bores with Mother's but don't leave any residue. Just get everything clean and it should all work correctly.

If you're trying to gum them up, super glue should do the trick.

a previous post suggested xylene and an essential oil at 70/30 mix. I've forgotten what the oil was oh just remembered wintergreen I think, however where does one get Xylene??

Sorry forgot to mention that I need to get the rubber boots soft again. That is the reason for the wintergreen / xylene mix. Suggestions??
