Pilot Screw Adjustment?

I need to adjust the pilot mixture screws on my '83 550 Spectre. I read about most of these screws set around 1 and 3/8 but mine were set around 2 and 1/2 and 3 of the plugs were nice and light brown but the one was black. So should I screw that specific pilot screw in or out? Please help I need to finally get this thing running properly.

I think I would try going up one size on my pilot jet.

On my 750 twin, they always run best at right around 2 turns out.
