Float bowl parts for 650 Ltd

Float bowl parts for 650 Ltd

The float bowls on my 1980 Ltd have a tiny cylinder holding a "bb" size ball and a little brass slug held by a spring clip. I'm missing some of these and can't seem to find anyone supplying them. What is their function and can I plug them off?
