KZ550 Spectre Carb Problems!

I bought a 1983 KZ550 Spectre a few months ago and it is in sorta bad shape. But the problem I am stuck at now is with the carbs! I took them off and cleaned them. Then I put them back on and started the bike up..it was a little better than before but the problem is when it is just in neutral or is on the road, it doesn't respond to the throttle as it should. If you slowly open up the throttle the RPM's increase but at one spot it just bogs. On the road its the same..when you give it full throttle it doesnt take off like it should. Next I took the carbs off again and went through them to make sure everything was cleaned and I found a few things I missed that were very minor and didnt end up making a noticable difference. But one thing I did this time was screw in each needle screw and wrote down what each was set at and then I took them out to clean them. They had some dirt on but that didn't really make a difference either when the carbs were put back on. The problem doesn't seem major but I need to fix it. My father and I both think it isn't timing or electrical. But I think about those screws and I really don't know exactly what they are for. Are they for syncronization? And if they are not set correctly, could it be causing this problem we have? We had the bike running in driveway with the airbox off so we could see if the slides are working and they are so that isn't the problem. Also we think it has to not be getting enough gas because when we give it say 1/2 choke when the engine is hot, it runs A LOT better. So please give me some suggestions!
Thanks, Nick

Valve clearances. CRUCIAL on these bikes. don't chase you're tail. Bite the bullet for a day and check those clearances. took me from a 60 psi #1 to a 156 psi #1. seems weird but it's true.

alright thank you! I'm 15 so I'm pretty new to this (of course I learn from my dad) but how do you check that pressure?

If you are pulling dirt from ANYWHERE on your carbs IT IS a problem. Thoroughly-meticulously clean those carbs. Get yourself a good in-line filter and make sure your tank and petcock is clean. A good clean fuel supply is critical.
Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure they're dirt free right now though. I went through everything twice. I cleaned everything that I could take out of the carbs and I sprayed carb cleaner through all the holes to make sure none were clogged. After that I blew compressed air through the holes too. By the way, my fuel line has a little kink in it from just how tight the area is from the petcock to where it goes on the carbs so is there some kind of 90 degree piece I can put right at the top of the carbs where the gas line is currently being restricted? If so, that would fix the gas line problem..but I don't think that major right now.

I think you'd be better letting that gas line do a little lazy loop and adding a gas filter than have that kink in there. Are all pipes getting hot when run?

Yeah I'll look into. And I didn't check that..right now I'm waiting for a spring to come in that was missing from the oil filter assembly thing so I can't run it yet to check that. I am going to go out now and start taking off the head cover to check the valve clearances..I'm hoping that is the problem!

Here are the clearances:
Exhaust Acceptable Clearance=.006-.010 Exhaust Valves: 1=.008 2=.004 3=.005 4=.007
Intake Acceptable Clearance=.004-.008 Intake Valves: 5=.005 6=.004 7=.003 8=.006

What do you guys think?? I know valves 2, 3, and 7 all are too tight.
