leaking petcock

I took my 1982 kz750 out for about a hour ride today. when i went to park it i noticed it was idleing a bit low and actually died once. So i look under to where the on/off switch is under the tank i believe it is called a petcock was spitting out a bunch of gas. Its shooting out where its looks like a orange little rubber gasket piece that connects metal to metal. Is there a replacement part just for the little gasket? or am i going to have to buy a hole new petcock? and simple fixes?

check at Z1 Enterprises they have diphragms and replacement petcocks available. You may have to do some research to find just what you need but they are great folks and will help a lot. ( yes they do sponsor this site but I'm just a customer.)

Make sure it's actually the petcock leaking and not a split line.

This Gasoline-Alcohol mix being forced upon us (E-10,E15 & E85) will cause the rubber bits in our older bike's fuel system to quickly fail in a relatively short time. Check anything that touches this stuff for signs of cracking,or you may be stranded some day.

Would suggest considering Z1E as parts source.

Is there a way to take the petcock off the tank without having to take it off the bike? Only reason I ask is because to take the tank off my bike is a huge hassle. Would I be able to replace the diagram without taking the tank off....like does it disconnect from the bottom of the tank somehow?
