Jetting advise on 810 build and Mikuni BS34 carbs
11 Apr 2011 20:28
Trying to get my 810 build from last fall up and running. I've been trying to get a set of VM28s with the accelerator pump to work in my bike, but I've been running into nothing but problems so I've pretty much given up on these carbs. They ran fine idling and WOT, but very rich on the bottom end.
I've picked up a set of BS34s from a KZ1000 and would like some jetting advise to get a base line for tuning my system (I wanted to use the BS34s from the beginning vs the VM28, but didn't have them at the time).
I've done some research and found that Kaw used the BS34s on several KZ750s and KZ1000s. The set I've picked up come from a KZ1000 and based on prior forum searching it seems the KZ1000 used a different needle jet and jet needle vs the KZ750. According to a post from Wired George he said that there was little different between the two and if anything it would run a bit richer in the mid range. Seeing how mine is an 810 I figure this would be fine.
Current motor specs:
KZ750 bored to 810. Everything else stock except the 4-1 exhaust. I'm at about 2400FT.
I was thinking about using the stock jetting for the KZ750?
Thanks in advanced as carbs are my weak point.

Im not 100% sure the carb spacing on 1000's & 750's are the same. Id use a set of GPZ 750 carbs myself. Stock jetting will be Ok if you use the airbox, its a giant PIA if you dont. If the spacing is the same use the GPZ jetting specs. My 82 GPZ 750 has a factory ported head on it too
