time for my own thread...benn posting long enought if someone elses thread....

so i have 79 kz750 twin

first i have pods and a 50 main...low end is real crisp...seen to be anyway..

getting 135 from Z1 next week...they found it for me!

so now that i read a thread as to where the neededl/clip area is..ill checkint what i got there...
here is what issues im currently haveing and a question about adjusting

the top screw under the chock assembly...is that the air screw or fuel or both?
if not both then where is the other screw tha would require adjustment?

and when i adjust...in makes it richer....or leaner?

i have read this answer here many time but id dont stick in....my idle came down...its at 15oo as low as it could be adjusted...when i turned the screws out(counter clock) at top under the choke assemble the idle did come down some...so that leaning it out...right?
and turning them all the way in to closed or almost i get the popping sound...?thats to lean then....right?

u see my confusion?

thanx again!

im read the manual now also....see if there are 2 screw adjustments...i didnt notice it last look

The '79 750 twin: the needle is part of the vacuum piston assembly. You take the tops off and remove the pistons CAREFULLY not to stress or tear the rubber diaphragms attached. Check these VERY closely for cracks or slits. If these diaphragns are not airtight, the carbs will NEVER run right (guess how I know).

Removing the needles takes a special long nose plier tool that can reach in and compress the C clip that holds the plastic needle holder into the piston. If you get an explosion drawing from Bike Bandit you'll see what I mean. The needle will have five slots, the stock position is the middle (third) slot. Moving the clip LOWER makes it richer, higher is leaner.

The only adjustment "screw" is the pilot screw on the side of the carbs. Opening it makes the mix richer, turning in is leaner. Start with it about 2 turns out from bottom.

To have any hope of adjusting these to run right, you must first:

Clean the fuel system thoroughly.

Verify the carb mounts (intake manifolds) are not leaking air.

make sure there are no leaks in the diaphragms.

Do a bench sync on the throttle plates.

Set the fuel levels in the bowls with clear tube method.

The factory manual shows this and explains the theory. Really essential to get one, I got one off ebay for $5 on a disc. I think somebody has posted it here, not sure where.
