Likely results from old hardened valve stem seals which allow oil to seep past and collect on the underside of the valves. When the engine is cranked up, the accumulated oil is drawn into the combustion chamber and burns out through the exhaust.

Many engines do this, and it's usually harmless.

Wouldn't worry about it until the head is removed for some other reason, and then replace the seals.

Good Fortune! :)

The valve seals are the achille's heel of these engines. They start letting oil run down through the valve seats and crud up the seats. Eventually, the valves don't seat anymore. Do the top end and replace with VITON valve seals. Problem will be solved.
