Scratches on slides (BS34)

When I come to a stop, the bike runs high (2k maybe) for like five seconds then returns to idle. I checked the throttle cable to make sure i wasnt getting hung up and I have about a 1/4" of slack in the throttle. Any clues on where to start? Again running pods and 4n1 V&H on a J2. Thanks.
