1983 KZ 750 L3

Hey All,

I own an 83 KZ 750 4 cyl. I recently added larger jets, 4 into 1 exhaust with a kerker pipe and pod filters. My issue is, although the bike screams once at and over 5000 rpm, getting there seems sluggish and slow. Specifically...no bottom end. I'm wondering if someone can offer some insight to this. I drove an 82 (same bike essentially) and it has way more bottom end than mine. Perhaps I'm missing something. I've installed 115 Main jets and raised my jet needles to the second last position. Pilot jet screws are set to factory. Compression is good, everything else checks out. Only thing I didn't look at (as someone else suggested) was the timing advancer. Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

Pikk

I was talking with Otakar on the board here about rejetting my 84 750L and he suggested 120's and possibly even 122.5's for a pipe and pod's. I've jetted my carbs with the 120's but havent run it yet. Maybe something to look into.

Hmm...might be an idea. Although the guy at the Kawasaki dealer who knows these bikes well said 115's should be all I need. Damn ole' bikes. They are a picky bunch. LOL!

Thanks for the reply!

does this bike have the CV 34's?

Maybe try to richen the pilots up a bit to see if that helps?

Well, after a good run this weekend...I'm pretty sure my Mains are way too small. I've been reading some stuff about these Mikunis on these bikes and I should be at a minimum 140 main jets. I couldn't get the thing past 6500 RPM without it bogging down...begging almost, for fuel. lol! Also heard I need larger pilots. I'm going to try 140's and 42 Pilots. If anyone has experience with these and wants to weigh in, I'm open for suggestions. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If not already done, would test run with fuel cap ajar to see whether that makes any difference.

While at it, also add a little choke during the bogging to see if that makes any difference.

Results of these test may aid diagnosis.

Good Fortune! :)

Good Idea, Patton. The choke on may indicate it's getting too much air...not enough fuel.

Thanks!
