Alternative for Keihin Cv 34's - '80 750-4
03 Mar 2011 07:23
Spring is around the corner and I've been thinking lately what I need to get done to my bikes before I can ride them.
I started thinking about my 80 750-4 with Keihin CV34 carbs, and how nicely I got them dialed in last year and how lucky I was to score 4 extra diaphragms for them since they are so hard to find and so expensive.
That got me thinking, in the next couple years if I use those diaphragms and need more, it might be overall cheaper to find a different set of carbs that will work on this bike, and hopefully these different carbs will have more readily available parts.
Anyone have any advice on alternative carbs? (aside from the CR specials...

I've always been curious about this as well, what factors are changed to put that large a carb on the 750's and what impact does it have on the overall performance of the engine? With bigger ports, do the cams also have higher lift or longer duration?

Well, I was thinking maybe some of the laster 750's (or 700's) might have a different carb that would fit with maybe just minimal mods?
Even if someone spends $300 on a great set of different carbs, it might be worth it because people are getting $50-$100 for these stupid diaphragms, and thats not new...thats junk yard price. Plus there is not a lot of parts available for the CV34's... so one could easily make the case to spend the extra money on something newer/more available.
It looks like the 80s and 81s have the same carb, but 82 and later are unique for the year (according to the part diagrams on kawasaki.com). However, I'm guessing the carb assembly has a different part number if one small thing is different internally, but they are essentially the same and would work on the other bikes.
Any other good idea where to find out what carb is used for every year of the 750/700 series?

Did some research and looks like BS34's came on the later bikes. Anyone have any experience or comments on the bs34's?

And not your nice one, either...it's gonna rain shit...
But you have a serious question, on the bigger bikes the BS34's are a hot-button issue. It's a love-it/hate-it topic.
Not sure on the 750's, though. Steell? Buehler?
