Thanks, but I've already been down that road, that is was I thought it was at the begining and replaced all crush gaskets with new ones and cleaned the head and header flange.I pulled the carbs off yesterday and sure enough #3 carb holder has a crack in it time to replace um, we'll see what happens next week when I get it back together.

OK, than really the only other cause is most likely too lean a pilot jet.

It came on the bike when I bought it.I'm the 4th owner, the original owner did all the mods back in '80(jets,pods 4-1) the other 2 owners really treated it like shit, when I bought last year it had 15 years of road kill and grease on it. I got a lot of hours in it just cleaning not to mention tuning but it's worth it I was 18 yrs old when this bike came out and didn't have the money to buy one,at the time I ridin a 69 Triumph trophy 650. Yes I had my buddy media blast the pipe and I shot some black on it. Wonder what the pipes worth today?

For side-located air screw, turn clockwise 1/4 turn (reduces air).

For bottom-located mixture screw, turn counter-clockwise 1/4 turn (increases mixture).

Good Fortune! :)
I put some GS1000 carbs (non-pumper) on my '79 KZ1000 with 20 pilots and 120 mains. The bike had been running great except for loud exhaust popping. I just turned the air screws 1/4 in and that got rid of most of the popping.

Thanks Patton!

Just some info regarding the exht gaskets.
It is common to have flange fit issues with aftermarket exht systems. If u find that u run out of thread on the flange bolts u can use 2 gaskets to get a better seal. Z1E also sells thicker gaskets for this reason.
please gont spray gas to check for air leaks. WD-40 is safer.
hope this helps others.

I have the same problem when decel'n. I took a look under the bike at the H crossbar (whatever you want to call it) where the gaskets would be, and noticed a small amount of pressure coming out of the 1 side. I haven't replaced it yet, but I did losen it up, put exhaust gasket silicon in and closed it up again. That fixed the problem for about a week until the silicon failed. So I'm going to have to replace that gasket as well now.
