Anyone know mikuni rs carbs with pumper very well?
20 Feb 2011 13:14
Hey i have a 79 kz1000 ltd. Cone filters a 4 in 1 exhaust with short baffle. Any if i snap throttle i have a big hickup somethimes stalls if i hold it open. Took the first pumper screw out just to get the tab to touch pumper rod.Sometimes the rod touches tab sometimes there is about 1/16 th of a gap is this normal or should it always touch. If so do i need to replace pumper parts, or am i just being to picky? Thx for looking and any responce is greatly appreciated. ERIC

Not 100% certain, but I believe they should always touch. The bike should rev fine with the pumper working right.
I would remove carbs and rebuild the pumper with an appropriate kit.
Were the carbs re-jetted and idle mixtures set after filters/exhaust was installed?

leave accel pump alone. i have set many of these up and if you increase pump shot you are covering up another problem.
ex lean needle setting, low float setting etc.

Im going through my carbs right now and dealing with a hiccup/hesitation with my 79 vm28s on my 76 900. Im going to go into detail in my own post but basically its underjetted I betting.

Just to make sure what were talking about here...These are a new kit or some old stock from another bike?
Are you just cranking your throttle wide open from idle?
In my experience with the RS you needed to use way more control with throttle input as to not create a lean condition...Thus bog and lack o power. But when you get it right look out.
Now this is on a different bike all together. I did have some time with a dyno to get mixtures correct as possible with the given conditions.
There are others out here that have RS with similar bikes/displacement, hopefully they will pipe in.
