CV Carb question
30 Jan 2011 18:30
Hey guys i was wondering how much "slack" should be in the diaphram of a cv carb. These are on a 83 gpz305 which are the sam as a kz305 but the slides are shorter so they open up more.to get 34 horse instead of 27! any way see the wrinkles in the diaphram it seems like there is extra material than needed.

If I hammer it, in the mid range it surges(like i was hammering the throttle and then releasing it) idle great, starts great full throttle is great once the surging bucking bronco act is done, have cleaned the carbs and blown through them 5 times. i have the stock air box and filters, the boots look fine and plyable.

Anyways...
If the slides are shorter than the origionally intended product, than you are most likely too lean in the mid range, and require raising the needle, or new needle depending. The main is probly too lean for max power as well...
It doesnt matter how much slide rubber is in there so long as the slide reaches full bottom to top without any hinderence.
good luck.

+2 on them looking normal.
On your running issue, will it pass that fluttering rpm range, and open up above that, or just never get past it?
Going through the carbs entails using one of these:
Just blowing everything out, won't cut it.
Might want to try it again with the gas cap popped open, as the tank might not be venting.
Good luck.

Here is a link I have kept in my favorites for tuning these carbs.
www.factorypro.com/tech_tuning_procedure...igh_rpm_engines.html
Could also be getting the carbs sync'ed would aid in a smoother low to midrange running. Bench-syncing them once off the bike will get you close, but vacuum syncing them will be even better.
