Rattle-rattle-rattle

Again I apologize for posting a Yammy question here, but there isnt much else out there to assist.1986 Yamaha Radian
600.Spent 10 years in a storage unit.I bought for 100 pesadas and spent last 6 months going through it.Bike runs strong,no flat spots,no bogging down, starts on first punch of starter switch.Problemo is that it idles like crap and at 1000 rpm or less, has a horrible rattle-clatter.Over 1200 rpm no rattle. What I have done:Set timing on TDC and adjusted the cam chain tensioner per manual. No help.Pulled the clutch basket out, found the main hold-down nut loose, retightened per spec, put basket back in,fired bike up-rattle-rattle.Pulled basket back out, substituted low mileage basket from ebay that I had checked over, fired bike up-rattle-rattle.Now,way back when I had pulled carbs, cleaned ,put back in but did note these were Mikuni slide valves. I did the screw bench sync, synced with my handy dandy sych tool(vacuum) and the bike runs very strong-except at idle and except for the damn rattle.Could this be the slides rattling or what?HELP.Lol.bj

Hey BJ, does the Yammi have a chain primary drive or gears?

I would think that 1000 rpm might be a little low for a 600. Is that what the book says it should be set to?

Have listened to it with a stethoscope/ Hose to the ear? To find out which are the noise it from?
Maybe those suffer from bolts backing out, or chain guides?

Yep.Noise seems to be coming from clutch area, but this little motor has everything kinda crammed in there so hard to tell.Pulled valve cover and at least top chain guide seems a little worn but serviceable.Cant see the others.Good thought though. Thanks much.bj

Clutch side, possible clutch hub separating from gear? Full of proper oil no doubt, does it look as though the cover has ever been removed? Could the nut be loose for the clutch basket, or a spacer left out?

How long after the battery was removed from the charger did you test the battery voltage?

my money is on the slides rattling......some models are known for it.....synch em best you can and make sure timing is good.....cam chain right?....set idle just over noise limit and live with it......its a yamaha....
