Question about crankcase vent/airbox tube.
22 Jan 2011 19:49
Hey, guys. Tried to find this by seaching, but didn't really see what I needed to know. I'm probably not looking in the right place.
I got the airbox out today so I could try the pods and I notice there is a tube running from the bottom of the box to the crankcase. I've already bypassed the anti-smog system, but me not being a real mechanic and never working on bikes until two weeks ago, I don't have a clue how to address the crankcase vent. What do the rest of you that run pods do with the crankcase vent? I'm assuming it has to be filtered air.
Thanks again in advance.

May route breather vent outlet via hose to underneath bike.
Imo, a filter is unnecessary.
Good Fortune!

Patton, thanks for the lesson on how all that stuff works. That explains alot.
Motor Head, you're the man. That is exactly what I needed. I knew there had to be a way to put something on the vent that would filter it. The one you showed me says it's universal, so it sounds easy enough.

Now that is also nice to know. Cool. Looks like I was stressing over nothing. Now I've got two options.

Hey I probably just beat Patton by a wisker on that.
But you probably want to get some jets for changing to Pods, along with some other essentials. Z1 is very good, most everyone here will agree. They also sponsor this forum, win-win.

I was just looking at the link you sent me and they've got some good stuff reasonably priced. I'm putting it in my favorites for sure.
I've been looking into the jet thing. With the smog pump out, pods going on and stock muffler coming out, I have no doubt that jets will be the next challenge for me. Any advice on that is much appreciated. Haven't decided what to do for pipes yet though. May go straight, but if too loud and hard to tune, I'll have to wait and see.

I thought that Lou/ Loudhvx had some great info on the 550 TK22 carbs, and he will share gladly. He has a web site too.
Here is the thread where he was telling you about it:
