The one piece puzzle..

I was cleaning my 1983 KZ440 LTD today when I noticed a clear hose, only about 8mm-10mm in diameter. It was setting in the battery area, and It wasnt connect on either end. I have no idea what it is, but it was wrapped behind the battery. I couldnt see where the other end was going to before it completely fell off. Anyone have any idea what kind of hose would run there, And where it goes back into?

Feel free to poke fun if its obvious.

My guess is going to be vent hose for the battery itself. Some motorcycle batterys have a vent that will attach to what is usually a small clear hose. It's intended to vent the acid away from the battery box in case you had an overcharging situation that caused the battery to boil over.

Do you have the battery? Does it have a spigot with a small hose barb coming off the top?

I checked the battery, and no it doesn't. Then again, it's a fairly new looking battery and the owner previous to my told me it had just been replaced. The hose has no smell of gas, or oil or anytihng to that matter. So I am assuming it wasnt plugged into anythng, it had infact just been set there after the new battery was put it? maybe? Its almost molded into a three sided square shape from sitting behind the battery housing, So I would guess it hasnt been plugged into anything in a while..

Here's to hoping that's what it is!

Thanks a bunch testarossa.

P.S.: This forum is great.

No, this forum is the best in the world, and your title sounds like a descriptor for my wife.

Yeah, in that spot its most probably a battery overflow line.

Sometimes the vent nipple is on the side and you have to lift the battery up a few inches to see it. It will be pointed down and is usually molded onto the side of the top piece. If left disconnected it can leak acid all over and acid is very very corrosive to metal. Ask me how I know this ;)
