That's great info, thanks Jeff. I'm in no hurry for the petcock as i still have to finish rebuilding carbs, so I'll wait to see about the petcocks you folks are getting in.

Here's a picture of the set-up. I got the adaptor from Z1 and the valve on ebay. It's the same valve as you found at J.C. whitney.

This is the exact same set-up I just installed on my 82 kz1000 csr and it works perfect. You bolt up the adaptor and scribe mark the inside of the hole where you will need to remove a small amount of material from the original opening so the screen on the new valve will fit up into the tank. I used a die grinder and held the end of my shop vac near while grinding and it sucked up the filings. The adaptor comes with Hylomar sealer and you coat the adaptor and gasket and tank and let it dry for 10 minutes then assemble. Wrep the valve threads with teflon tape and install. Mine does not leak and works great. Don't forget to cap your vacuum port on the carb.
Hmmm, so this petcock,

Should work with this adapter plate,

And all should be good. I think? Unless I've missed something. Not much info on the petcock though. Don't know if there a reserve option or not.

that's exactly the same petcock we used to sell. Some are good, most are bad these days...
Even Tucker-Rocky (the #2 m/c parts distributor in the USA) stopped selling them.
