zn1100

Hey guys just picked up a 84 ZN1100, altho it is missing the tank and carbs. I am having a hell of a time finding these items for the bike. The tank shouldn't be too much of a problem, if it came down to it I could just bolt on any old tank for the time being, but ebay is not at all fruitful for the carbs. Are there other models which took the same carbs? Anyone got a parts bike with some carbs to sell? Got any good leads?
Thanks

Although I do not have the genuine Kawasaki shop manual, you should. The manual will detail the needle/jetting set-up in the carbs for your ZN. Carbs should not be a problem for your bike as Mother Kawasaki used Mikuni BS34 CV type carbs on many of her bikes from that period...but varied the internal set-up in the carbs.

you will have a hard time finding a tank for it.
i own one also and keep my eyes open for tanks and sidecovers.
on the rare occasions they do come up for auction the bidding goes high because everyone wants one.
also, if you can get your hands on one make sure to flip it over and look near the bottom for a small rip.
all 3 i have found locally have had a hole in the same spot.
(in the right side very bottom of tank)
good luck!
btw, we need pictures.

Its pretty bobbed out, at one time it looked like the pic. Now we are missing carbs and tank. The PO reported similar rusting out issues with the tank like you mentioned, and he took the carbs to a local shop which promptly destroyed them. I don't mind a non-stock tank on the bike because it is already so heavily modified, toggle switches everywhere, but I gotta get the carbs to have it run right. Ive been searching around for KZ1000s and GPZ750s being parted out, still slow going but I think I may have a few leads. If anyone has one, let me know.
Doesn't really matter at the moment, I have a 95 Vulcan, a 95 Ninja 600R, and a couple dirtbikes ahead in line to get worked on before the ZN gets any love. Its my plan to have it going by Thanksgiving. Yesterday when I bought it I sprayed some ether down into the engine and it blasted to life, so I am pretty confident that all we need is a decent set of carbs. Or a crappy set, that I can clean up.
Anyways, stay tuned for updates!
