82 GPz750 - Idle Mixture and Carb Sync
20 Oct 2010 05:07
Now that I've gotten rid of my really high idle problem, I have a question. The bike seems cold-blooded and takes a while to warmup. I have to keep it on 1/2 choke for awhile. Once running I have it idling around 1,100. It runs pretty strong when I'm riding it, but the idle doesn't drop as much as I think it should between shifts (just doesn't seem crisp, would be best way to describe it.)
I bench synced the carbs and idle mixture is 2 turns out which is what they were when I got the bike. I'm planning to sync the carbs on the bike. Should I do that first before adjusting the idle mixture screws? When I adjust the mixture, I imagine its just finding the 1/2 way mark between when the engine starts to race and when it starts to stumble?
Thanks
Nick

Sounds just a tad lean yet.
When your getting the right amount of fuel at idle
and carbs are synced and idle set it will come back to idle fairly quickly.
Try 1/2 turn out.
Them sync the carbs.
If that is not enough go up one on the pilot.

I haven't picked up a carb sync tool yet, but I tried your suggestion of a 1/2 turn out and the bike runs much better. I start with full enricher, then quickly down to 1/2 and then right to idle.
Thanks
